We will have a religious ceremony at 11.15am in the Church of S. Marco Evangelista in Cavernago, which is located right in front of our wedding venue, the Castle of Cavernago (less than 100 metres walk separates the two sites). Cavernago is a small town, just outside the city of Bergamo and 10 minutes away from the Milan-Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport.
In 1597 duke Francesco Martinengo-Colleoni rebuilt the castle of Cavernago and in the same period he also restored the church of Cavernago. The church however was consecrated only in 1622, after his death. Two priests celebrated mass every day, according to the will of the duke, whose body was buried in the church in front of the choir’s step. However today the church is mostly used for weddings. Cavernago was elected as an autonomous parish only in 1948 by the Bishop of Bergamo.
